This is a permanent, full-time position effective May 1, 2021 for at least 1 year with extensions subject to funding availability. The Electron Microscopy technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting highly specialized imaging equipment and providing expertise in various techniques, designing optimal imaging conditions, data collection, and data analysis. The ideal candidate must have significant experience in high-resolution electron microscopy imaging, including sample preparation, image acquisition, and data analysis.
This posting is for an individual who will work in the UBC Centre for High-Throughput Phenogenomics (CHTP). Currently, the Centre houses a high-end focused ion beam scanning electron microscope, with x-ray microanalysis and cryo-preparation modules, and a tungsten thermionic scanning electron microscopy unit. The CHTP is an advanced imaging multi-user facility currently serving users from 8 UBC Faculties, where individual users may require assistance with operating equipment and preparing their samples. In some cases, these users may be trained to operate the equipment independently. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of the Centre, and will work alongside additional technical support personnel.
