I was born and grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a B.Sc. in Chemistry in 2002. I subsequently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Photophysical Chemistry, during which time I also worked in the Department of Chemistry at Memorial as a Laboratory Instructor, as a Laboratory Technician at North Atlantic Refining Limited, and most pertinently as a Research Laboratory Coordinator and Systems Administrator in the CREAIT Network at Memorial University. Shortly after successfully obtaining my doctorate in 2012 I became the Manager of Operations for the CREAIT Network. I have been involved with core research facilities at all three levels (user, laboratory coordinator, manager) for the entirety of my academic and professional life. I also serve on the Atlantic Facilities and Research Equipment Database (AFRED) Advisory Board and am a member of the Board of Directors for Science Atlantic. The CREAIT Network is comprised of 23 scientific personnel who oversee and operate ~$50M of institutional research resources and equipment in thematic clusters that are distributed around Memorial University. Our personnel assist Memorial students and researchers but also provide analytical services and expertise to external industrial, educational, and government clients. CREAIT also acts as a liaison between these external clients and Memorial’s scientific community.
